Why it matters
Our meals are cooked in a small, smoky kitchen on open fires. Cooks breathe smoke every day, a lot of firewood is burned, and there is no dry place to store maize and beans. This project builds a brick kitchen with energy-saving stoves that use far less firewood, good ventilation, a lockable food store, and a covered place to serve meals. A hot meal keeps children in school and helps them concentrate. The target is the school's current estimate and will be updated when quotations are confirmed.
